The Magnette typeface is inspired by a set of mysterious shapes found on an unidentifiable cassette tape in a thrift store. The initial structure of the typeface, derived from a distinctive “n” shape, gradually evolved through playful distortions and unconventional forms, creating an alphabet that plays with legibility. The design process embraced a balance between traditional structure and spontaneous shape variations, resulting in a typeface that feels both familiar and otherworldly. The complete character set offers two stylistic variations: rounded forms and angular, dynamic shapes, each challenging visual expectations in distinct ways.
Magnette was designed in 2024 by Edouard Berard.
