Opale started out as an experiment on drawing a horizontal-stress typeface with broken connections, following a constructed logic. This principles, coupled with proportions drawn from observing early geometric alphabets, led to designing a typeface with a discreet and largely sober appearance in the lighter cuts, and a sturdier, more playful image for the Bold variation. When used to set running texts all the weights of Opale produce a perfectly uniform yet lively paragraph texture, thanks to the unusual weight distribution, but it’s when used for headline purposes that the typeface shows all of its subtle details and its expressive structure. Opale was designed by Gabriele Fumero in 2017.
